Known as the “Mother City”, Cape Town more than lives up to its reputation of being the Must Visit destination in South Africa. The climate is Mediterranean, so even in the summer months it never gets too hot and while the winters are wet and windy, they remain quite mild when compared with most of Europe. As a holiday destination it is hard to beat: there are not many places where you can sunbathe on some of the most beautiful beaches, hike up impressive mountains and visit some of the world’s best wine farms. Cape Town is a cosmopolitan city, and it is sometimes easy to forget that this is Africa and is a Developing country. Security is an issue and we advise you to be cautious and always ask local advice about areas you wish to visit. We would be happy to organise a driver for the duration of your stay.

Over the past few years, Cape Town has been ranked by the Daily Telegraph as the world’s best foreign city and came in at number 5 in the BBC’s program of the “Top 50 places to see before you Die”. The striking backdrop of Table Mountain is the signature image of Cape Town and there are many legends and tales behind the famous “cloth” of cloud that descends. There is a cable car that transports you to the top from which you have panoramic views across the city to Robben Island and towards the Cape of Good Hope where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet.

There are numerous beaches to be explored, both in and around the city. The ones that are nestled on the southern side of Table Mountain: Clifton, Llandudno and Sea Point beaches have white sands and the cold waters of the Atlantic, but further around on the False Bay side the water is warmer and the beaches stretch for miles. South African wines have built up a world class reputation over the years and a visit to the Cape would not be complete without some time spent visiting wine farms. There are some that are in Cape Town itself, such as Buitenverwachting in Constantia, but most visitors like to venture further afield to the Stellenbosch and Franschoek areas. The harbour waterfront was developed in the early nineties to become a fantastic tourist attraction, with shopping malls, hotels and excellent restaurants.

The sporting enthusiasts have a host of choices in Cape Town. There is some superb diving and several dive schools where you can gain international certificates, sailing and surfing are also very popular with Blouberg beach hosting international windsurfing competitions. Horse riding and racing are also available, Cape Town is home to Kenilworth Racing Course, and for the amateurs why not have a ride along the vast sands of Noordhoek beach.
