Catered Villas Karaka - New Zealand
Escape the rush...
As Europeans began to occupy property in Franklin, land disputes with the Māori natives developed, causing the Land Wars, after which the Government repossessed the land in the area. Europeans then began to rapidly settle in this beautiful district, focusing their efforts on farming activities. Karaka is famous for its thoroughbred horses. Surrounded by scenic beaches and rolling pastureland, it is ideally situated for a quiet getaway, or a favourite location to enjoy everything from fishing to racing. Black sand West Coast beaches, Waiheke Island wineries and Auckland's well-known shopping areas are just a stone throw away. The magnificent Hunua Falls and Ranges, located near Drury are one of the region’s most popular attractions. Karaka nature and wildlife activities are fun and absorbing for the whole family. From petting animals to watching feeding sessions and learning of our endangered species, kids will love the interactive nature displays. A private luxury villa in Karaka is a great holiday destination for travellers wanting to combine their love of the outdoors with their adventurous spirit. Horse riding and horse trekking cater for the beginner through to the expert horse rider. For a fantastic nature experience with lovely views, Karaka horse-back riding and horse treks offer a fun adventure, ideal for nearly all ages and all abilities. Karaka has superb golf courses catering for all levels.
Karaka is a rural suburb in Franklin and is located near Papakura and Pukekohe, very near to Auckland. The name of the suburb comes from the Karaka tree, an evergreen with lustrous leaves. Karaka itself is still mainly a rural town with dairy and sheep farming and a large interest in horse breeding with the New Zealand Bloodstocks National Yearling Sales taking place in the area annually. Situated just 30 minutes south of Auckland it also offers a range of activities from an interactive farm experience to cafés, wine and olive tastings and New Zealand's scariest attraction, Spookers - a live entertainment event in which the victims move through a theatrically themed Haunted House environment, populated by sets, props and live scare-actors. As the victims walk through the experience they will encounter visual, physical and sound effects intended to scare them. Many of these effects were created with the support of Weta Workshops of Lord of the Rings and King Kong fame. Some rural land has been divided into large plots that are currently being developed to become further residential areas where tourist can rent a luxury villa. The Karaka Lakes development is perhaps the most notable current residential move of the area and is set to include a shopping centre. There is frequent transport from Auckland Airport to Karaka as well as bus and train services.
The area boasts a variety of attractions for all tastes including some specialist shops in nearby Clevedon Village, where you can treat yourself to fresh produce, weekly farmer’s markets, award-winning wines and quaint country eateries. Have brunch or lunch at St Margaret's Country Garden Café and enjoy the traditional English gardens. Other diners include the Red Shed, Chill Out Bar & Grill and Murphy’s Law Irish Bar in Drury. You can enjoy great fishing right on the doorstep of the Manukau Harbour and boat ramps are available at Bottletop Bay, Clarks Beach and Waiau Pa.
By becoming a member of the Karaka Sports Park facility, your whole family will be able to enjoy a unique complex that is able to offer varied sporting activities including rugby, tennis, cricket, touch, netball and athletics. At the Pukekohe Golf Club, only 6 km from Karaka, you can join millions world-wide who are united by the unique sport of golf. Whilst playing you will be surrounded by full-grown trees, lakes with fountains, a river and countless wildlife to keep you company. Quite a few local equestrian centres and riding schools are available in the area as well.
