St Anton has long been a favourite destination for both snowboarders and skiers, especially experienced and off-piste snow-adventurers, looking either for a bit of fun or for the traditional hospitality of the Tyrolean Alps. One of the main advantages of this resort, in addition to many others, is its ease of access. You can take a train directly to the station of St Anton from Zurich airport or city train station. Most of the luxury ski chalets for rent are located in the Nasserein area of St Anton which is considered the top area to be located in. The pretty Alpine town has a pedestrian centre and is spread out over several kilometers. Along with its neighbours, Zurs and Lech, St Anton offers extensive skiing, but aimed at the more serious intermediate and advanced skiers, rather than at beginners. More expert skiers are attracted to the resort by the large amount of outstanding off-piste skiing available, especially in the Vallurga bowl, which is arguably the best that Austria has to offer. Most of the slopes here are south facing which means that late afternoon skiing can be a bit slushy on a sunny day. The lift system has been much improved recently. There are several mountain restaurants and toboggan runs as well as nice pedestrian areas for non-skiers. Skiers will probably stop at one of several famous mountain restaurants or at one of the equally famous vars on their way down. This is not a jet-set resort as much as a relaxed, fun resort for luxury winter holidays. It ranks high on our list of top catered chalet holidays at ski destinations in Europe.
