Sainte Foy - France
Best-kept secret of the Alps
The hidden hamlet of Sainte-Foy Tarentaise, a small secret village in the midst of several giant resorts like Tignes, Val d'Isere and Les Arcs, is growing into a picturesque and luxurious resort that offers intimate skiing for both beginners and progressed skiers, with the emphasis on off-piste. For several years the beautiful traditional chalets, friendly atmosphere and nearly private ski slopes have been attracting real mountain lovers. For a family or a group of friends, this charming resort in a pristine landscape uncluttered by the crowds, is a perfect place for a holiday. There are no high rise buildings and no crowds; only a pretty blend of old and new in a superb mountain setting.
Sainte Foy Tarentaise has some very good eating places: from alpine chalets preparing dishes like grandma used to make to haute-cuisine restaurants. The small selection of bars and shops in Ste Foy is just enough for a successful ski holiday.
There is powder just yards from the pistes at Sainte Foy which lasts for days thanks to the northwest facing slopes. Take a guide to explore one of the renowned off-piste routes to the deserted farming hamlet of Le Monal, or the infamous 1700 m vertical descent of the north face of Fogliettaz. Of the 7 ski lifts, 3 are free and 4 are chairlifts. There are 15 slopes: 1 green, 4 blue, 7 red and 3 black. Non skiers can indulge in dog sledding, superb guided snowshoe walks to the many little hamlets, snow biking, paragliding and heliskiing. Other sport attractions include mountaineering, climbing, Via Ferrata, canyoning and hiking for all abilities.
