Catered Villas St Barth - Caribbean
Glowing pearl of the Caribbean
Close to Puerto Rico or the Virgin Islands and 145 miles north-east of Guadeloupe, St Barth and its neighboring island of Saint Martin are known as the “Northern Islands.” This arid, rocky island of just eight square miles is home to an eclectic mix of iguanas and night-blooming cactus; magnificent beaches and luxury yachts; designer boutiques and interesting people. This is an island with a strong, independent personality and it is certainly the most unusual of the French West Indies islands. In spite of its good fortune, it has been able to conserve the charm and the simplicity of its past. The people of St Barths, concerned about their cultural heritage as well as their interests, have been able to infuse the island’s authenticity with a sense of opulence.
Plus d'information
The horseshoe shaped Gustavia Harbour has conserved the sense of commerce it inherited from the past and remains a busy port. Yet electronics and luxury goods have replaced arms and the essentials of daily life in the many shops along the waterfront, and schooners carrying cattle on their way to Martinique have been replaced by sailboats and mega-yachts. You may relax on the terrace of a waterfront café and and delight in the line-up of fabulous sea-going “toys” anchored in the harbour.
Today it is possible to stroll among glittering jewelry stores and designer boutiques in Gustavia, or admire the restored facades of a few handsome wooden and stone buildings that remain from the Swedish era.
The island has retained isolated and peaceful beaches of unspoilt natural beauty. From high vantage points, you can enjoy breathtaking views that overlook the port, that was once the refuge of pirates, and today hosts a variety of spirited regattas.
A perfect day in paradise, relaxing on a chaise lounge, your body drenched in the glowing sun as you listen to the sound of the waves on the white sands of the shore, while sipping a cold drink: you are in St Barth, a jewel of the Caribbean!
