The voting phase for the World Ski Awards for 2016 is drawing to a close. As a matter fact, voting closes on Saturday, 24th of September! Leo Trippi Luxury Travel has won the award for the World’s Best Travel Agent in 2014 and 2015. Apart from their work in the traditional European ski resorts in France, Switzerland, Austria and Italy, Leo Trippi has spread its wings to ski resorts all over the world, from the east to the west.
Luxury ski holiday in the east: Japan
The beauty of the country where the sun rises early, the age-old culture, and the exquisite cuisine will surprise and charm even well-travelled visitors. In Japan, millennia of cultural treasures mix with the best technological and electronic facilities of the modern world. Rent a contemporary luxury chalet in Japan and enjoy a feast of sights and shopping and skiing. The snow-capped mountains of Happo One in Hakuba and Niseko in Hokkaidõ are the perfect venues for skiing, hiking and forest adventures.
The UNESCO World Heritage site, Shiretoko National Park, will bewitch you with its dense green canopies, clear water streams and endless ski slopes. In contrast, Okinawa in the south has a multitude of colourful coral reefs. After a day of exercise, there are few things as relaxing as a long soak in Japanese onsen, or steam bath.
Luxury ski holiday in the north: Lapland
Lapland is located in Finland, on the Arctic Circle in northern Europe. Finland is also part of the Scandinavian countries. Every child knows that Lapland is a magical country; it is after all the home of the one and only Santa Claus! On winter nights, you will probably have the privilege to observe the Northern Lights, the Aurora Borealis, which transform the skies over Finland into a psychedelic light show during the polar night. Excellent ways to experience the nature of Lapland are hiking, trekking, downhill skiing, snowboarding and cross-country skiing. There are marked tracks all over the country. Finland is fondly called the Land of the Thousand Lakes and Lapland has its fair share of beautiful lakes. In winter Finnish Lapland is a fairyland of snow-covered trees and frozen lakes. Rent a luxury chalet or a traditional log cabin in Levi or in the Kuusamo area and spend your holiday in a unique setting you can only find in Lapland.
Luxury ski holiday in the west: Aspen (Colorado)
Without a doubt the most famous ski resort in North America is located in the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. Powder-perfect conditions have made it a number one destination for skiers and snowboarders. Nearby is the Aspen Snowmass, the second largest ski area in America. No less than 100 miles of Nordic skiing, walking and biking paths in beautiful surroundings delight locals and visitors every winter. Enjoy a typical high altitude climate, with low humidity and intense sunshine. Ordinary people come to Aspen to feel like celebrities and famous people go there to feel ordinary. Aspen combines its small town charisma and functional private apartments, with classy and stylish luxury rental chalets.
Luxury ski holiday in the north-west: Canada
Revelstoke Mountain Resort in British Columbia is truly the powder snow capital of Canada. With an endless list of winter activities from downhill skiing to Nordic skiing, exciting snowmobiling, lift skiing, cat skiiing, heli-skiing and backcountry skiing – all from one village base. And if that isn’t enough, there is also ski touring, curling, tobogganing, skating and snowshoeing. With an average snowfall of 12-18m and the best luxury catered ski chalet from Leo Trippi, winter holidays are nothing short of awesome! The new children’s division of the Revelstoke Outdoors Centre, is a safe space for young snow school participants during the day and an activity centre in evenings.
Whistler BC is a spectacular Alpine village. With majestic mountain scenery, one of the largest ski areas in the world, and an active après ski scene, Whistler has a distinctive European atmosphere. It lies on the west coast of Canada just north of Vancouver in British Columbia. The resort regularly appears in “best of” lists, on the strength of its skiing and snowboarding, its luxury chalets, restaurants and golf courses. The Whistler Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games of 2010 brought millions of dollars’ worth of expansion and improvements to both the town and the slopes. Combining the attraction of an alpine village with the facilities of an urban centre, Whistler Village offers fine dining, pulsating nightlife, boutiques and spas. Nevertheless, it remains an ideal family ski resort.
Special awards at World Ski Awards
Apart from the national awards in all the different categories, the World Ski Awards Academy bestows some extra special awards as the grand finale to Ski Award’s gala prize giving event. Each year, the World Ski Awards Academy bestows extra special discretionary awards as the grand finale to ski tourism’s event of the year. The first is for Outstanding Contribution to Ski Tourism and is presented to an individual who has made a monumental contribution to the industry – a positive, defining impact over the course of a lifetime. Last year this accolade was presented to the late, great Stein Eriksen. The Ski Legend Award is bestowed upon an organisation, a brand or a collective team that is quite literally the stuff of legend. In 2015 this was presented to the Kitzbühel Wonder Team.
