Whistler Chalets and Vacation Rentals

From luxury lodges and chalets in Whistler to numerous hotels and condos, this popular ski resort in Canada has every type of accommodation available. When planning your Whistler ski holiday, you need to consider which area is the most convenient for you. The main hub is Whistler Village, the biggest and liveliest area with a gondola to each mountain. Further from the lifts is Upper Village, a car-free area of shops, bars, restaurants and luxury condos. Upper Village is much smaller and quieter but more upmarket and is where you will find the more luxury Whistler vacation rentals. Creekside was revamped and expanded for the 2010 Winter Olympics.

It is also possible to rent a luxury chalet in Whistler right on the slopes. Whistler ski in ski out chalets take you straight from the door to the ski area and back again at the end of the day. Catered chalets in Whistler are another popular choice, with a private chef on hand to create mouth-watering meals for you during your vacation in Whistler. Being only a couple of hours’ drive from Vancouver and a four-hour drive from Seattle, Whistler ski holidays are particularly popular around Christmas, New Year and public holidays so we recommend booking a vacation to Whistler well in advance for these dates.

Skiing in Whistler

Combining high, open bowls and sheltered forest runs, ski holidays in Whistler offer something for everyone. The resort has excellent nursery slopes but the green runs can be trickier than in many North American resorts. However, intermediates will find ideal and extensive terrain to suit on both sides of the mountain as will expert skiers. Whistler Mountain’s bowls are unrivalled with endless variations, chutes and gullies of varied steepness and width. There are also world-class terrain parks as well as epic terrain for free riders.

Cross Country Skiing in Whistler

If you're looking for a more sedate ski vacation in Whistler, then why not take advantage of the resort’s 160 km of well-marked cross country trails? Discover the old-growth forests of the beautiful Callaghan Valley at the Whistler Olympic Park or explore 30 km of trails at Lost Lake Park accompanied by incredible views of Whistler and Blackcomb mountains. The trails range from intermediate to advanced with biathlon, night skiing and snowshoeing also on offer.

Heli Skiing Whistler

One to tick off the bucket list when planning your luxury ski holiday to Whistler, heli skiing is the ultimate adrenaline-inducing experience for powder hounds. With over 432,000 acres of terrain, 173 glaciers and eleven zones, the opportunities are endless for heli skiing in Whistler. It is recommended you are of intermediate level and are able to ski powder for half a day if you are planning on heli skiing here. Each run is quite different and can range from 400 to 1,500 vertical metres in length.

To make your experience even more special, stay at Belmont Estate and take off from your very own private helipad. This private luxury lodge is set in seven acres of wilderness and is home to two large living rooms, a games room, cinema room and in-chalet spa.

Non-Skiing Activities in Whistler

Although there is enough skiing to keep any skier satisfied during their vacation in Whistler, the resort does have plenty of alternative activities. Cruise down the exhilarating tubing hill, experience dog sledding in the Callaghan Valley, follow winding trails on a snowmobile safari or explore the dazzling winter wonderland on a snowshoe trek. Adrenaline junkies should head to the Whistler Sliding Centre and have a go at bobsleigh or skeleton. After all that mountain air, head back to your luxury Whistler ski chalet and indulge in a spa treatment or unwind in the hot tub.

Best Bars and Restaurants in Whistler

A luxury ski holiday to Whistler would not be complete without exploring the numerous bars and restaurants both on and off the mountain. Vegeterians will appreciate Raven’s Nest, a cosy spot for a filling salad, soup or sandwich at the base of Red Chair. If you have a sweet tooth then don’t miss the Belgian waffles at Crystal Hut. Canadian Wilderness also runs a candlelit wine and fondue evening here too, accessible via snowcat. Oenophiles will enjoy the extensive wine list at Steep’s Grill whilst seafood lovers will enjoy Rimrock Cafe which serves lobster mashed potato! Another option is Araxi, one of Whistler’s oldest and best restaurants which offers freshly shucked oysters.

When it comes to apres-ski, Whistler offers everything from live music venues to sophisticated wine bars. Once the lifts close at 4pm, head for the lively bars at the bottom of the mountain and try the Canadian classic - rye whisky and ginger ale. Cocktails are often served by the pitcher. Later on, Whistler Village is the place to be with live music to keep you entertained.
