Leo Trippi's private villas for rent in Lech for your luxury holiday

Luxury in Lech: Harmonious tradition and zeitgeist

Voted "the most beautiful village in Europe" in 2004, the town invites guests every year to discover the secrets beneath the snow. Lech is located on the banks of the river Lech, 120 km west of Innsbruck in the West Alberg region in western Austria. The town of Zurs is 5 km south of Lech. Guests visiting Lech Zürs am Arlberg will find all the Alpine summer luxuries they can think of. Tens of thousands of guests nowadays visit the village, mostly known as a winter sports destination, during the summer months. The locals enjoy the time during the comparatively calm summer and refill their energy reserves in the earthy surroundings. Europe's biggest colony of ibex, for example, with around 600 animals, lives in Lech Zürs am Arlberg. Botanists delight in the rare herbs and the variety of blossoms, offering 20 different types of orchids alone. More than 200 hospitality businesses stay active in summer. A wide range luxury apartments and private chalets for rent are available, allowing guests to get to know the fresh green side of the eclectic winter sports location.

Lech is placed in a fairly sunny position where two beautiful and enchanting valleys join each other. The Omeshorn, towering to the south, provides awe-inspiring scenery. The mountain is high and open, with very few trees. From up high there are views to the Valluga above St Anton in one direction, and to Warth in the other. The human history of this area goes very far back. Dairymen, from near Zermatt, initially settled the tiny villages of Lech and Zürs in the 1200's. The first access road opened in 1897. Neither of the towns has expanded much in the ensuing 700 years. Zürs actually has under 100 inhabitants in summer! Its buildings, ancient and new, are painted in the colourful Tyrolean style. But, things have changed: Fine restaurants and clubs mix with discos, while a small number of elite shops and luxury chalets appeal to its sophisticated guests. Swiss and British Airways fly directly from London Heathrow and London City to Zürich. From Zürich a 2-3 hour coach or taxi ride with Arlberg Express takes you directly to Zurs and Lech.
