Luxury Ski Holidays in Madonna di Campiglio

At an altitude of 1520m in the stunning valley between the Brenta Dolomites and the glaciers of Adamello and Presanella, Madonna di Campiglio is one of Italy’s most famous resorts.

Situated in the heart of the Campiglio Dolomiti ski area, the resort offers 150 km of diverse skiing amidst a splendid backdrop of dramatic cliffs. A compact and stylish car-free centre is home to several Michelin-star restaurants and lively cafes and bars, creating a fun yet sophisticated ambiance for a luxury ski holiday in the Dolomites.

Traditional in style, the luxury ski resort of Madonna di Campiglio is 2.5 km long with the central area between the Pradalago and Cinque Laghi lift stations. Near the centre is a small park and a lake, used for skating, adding to the resort's charm.

Madonna di Campiglio is a beautiful area to embark on a snowy adventure. Surrounded by the breathtaking landscapes of the Adamello Brenta Nature Park, this is an ideal opportunity to hike along unexplored trails or clip on snowshoes and set off on a guided excursion. Campiglio is also one of the few Italian resorts to have a proper lift-served toboggan run. Other winter activities include paragliding, dog sledding, ice skating and ice climbing.

Skiing in Madonna di Campiglio

Madonna di Campiglio''s ski area is big in overall dimensions (over 17 km from north to south), giving a great sense of travel when skiing. Madonna di Campiglio is detached from the core of the Dolomites ski region but is linked to the valley town Pinzolo and two high ski stations (Folgarida and Marilleva).

Gentle open slopes can be found at the top of the resort with steeper parts in the woods lower down. Madonna di Campiglio has excellent snowmaking facilities so you can usually rely on a long season here. True blue skiers will find good slopes at Campiglio but the other resorts will be out of bounds. Confident skiers will find plenty to amuse them in every sector, including easy blacks. The main Ursus park on Passo Groste is one of the best freestyle areas in the Alps.

Bars & Restaurants in Madonna di Campiglio

Being an upmarket resort, it is no surprise that Madonna di Campiglio is home to several Michelin-star restaurants including Il Gallo Cedrone and Stube Hermitage. The former celebrates the mountains through the use of game, freshwater fish, cooking with hay and cheese – as well as remaining open to influences from the Mediterranean and elsewhere in Italy. Stube Hermitage is the perfect setting for a romantic evening with a focus on local produce. It also has an excellent selection of cheeses.

For more casual dining, The Hungry Wolf at the foot of the slopes serves burgers, salads and sandwiches plus a wide choice of craft beers and wines. On the mountain Ristorante Rifugio Stoppani specialises in a Trentino version of potato rösti.

Apres-ski is a popular pastime in Madonna di Campiglio with many bars, clubs and pubs busy throughout the evening. Bar Cafè D’Or is a cosy place for après beers and cocktails. Post-ski dancing kicks off at Piano 54 and carries on into the early hours at Des Alpes.

How to have the perfect luxury ski holiday in Madonna di Campiglio

  4. Refuel at a traditional rifugio before swapping your skis for a toboggan and whizzing down the 2.5 km Monte Spinale toboggan run.
  5. Let your hair down with a spot of apres-ski at one of the town's many bars before returning to your luxury chalet in Madonna di Campiglio for some well-earned relaxation.
