With the increasing movement towards being more environmentally aware and reducing our carbon footprint, luxury ski chalets have had to adapt. With some of the best eco chalets in the Alps included in our portfolio, we like to think it is still possible to enjoy life’s luxuries whilst remaining eco-friendly.
Ethical travel is a growing trend and the ski industry is becoming ever aware of the need to reduce carbon emissions. The design of the luxury eco ski chalet is important; the use of reclaimed wood, geothermal heating and double-glazed windows is commonplace.
Resorts are tightening their guidelines when it comes to building new chalets, making sure they are energy-efficient and using sustainable building processes. Many older chalets are being revamped to make them greener by installing solar and wood-pellet powered heating and ventilation systems.
From LED light bulbs to the use of natural, non-toxic bath products, there are many elements that go into making a luxury ski holiday more sustainable. Within our luxury eco accommodation collection are several properties which allow guests to choose how eco-friendly they wish to be. By choosing to limit daily housekeeping, linen and towel changes, not only are you reducing emissions but also the price of your holiday. In catered chalets, you have the option to reduce your meat consumption or to choose organic produce.
Other tips including taking a reusable water bottle with you when hiking or skiing and choosing low impact transportation such as buses, trains or bikes; small things really can make a difference.
