About Snow Polo
Although the St. Moritz polo club was founded by a group of locals in 1959, it wasn’t until 1985 that the first snow polo tournament was played.
A worldwide trend began and now you can find polo played on snow all across the globe from Aspen in the US and Cortina in Italy to Tianjin in China. It is however St. Moritz that remains the most prestigious tournament of its kind.
What can you expect?
Four teams including players from six different nationalities will thrash it out on the ice for the coveted Cartier Trophy. Polo superstar and Argentine 10-goaler, Juan Martin Nero, currently ranked as one of the best three players in the world, is back for this year’s tournament as is Brit, Chris Hyde who has won the tournament an unprecedented seven times. Aside from the Cartier trophy, prizes are also awarded for ‘Best Player’, ‘Best playing Patron’ and ‘Best Horse’.
Admission to the St Moritz Snow Polo World Cup is free. However, should you want something a little more exclusive you can opt for the VIP area where you can enjoy a delicious lunch prepared by the Badrutt’s Palace Hotel, including complimentary Perrier-Jouet champagne of course
