Starved of time on the slopes in 2020 and most of 2021, ski holidays are back, bigger and better than ever. There is plenty to look forward to this season, not least a number of new mouth-watering restaurants to try. Take a look at some of our top picks across the Alps.

The cuisine is often a big part of what we look forward to on a luxury ski holiday and we love to experience a new restaurant or dining concept. In this regard, Zermatt has certainly delivered with its brand new Diner’s Club at the Backstage Hotel. Opening its doors in December, the Diner’s Club is set to enchant its guests with a la carte service in the cinema of the legendary Vernissage Club. Guests at the Diner’s Club will enjoy international culinary classics accompanied by concerts, brand new blockbusters and self-produced local films. Unlike the Michelin-starred restaurant After Seven (three floors above), the Diner’s Club will be open all year around, and whilst not Michelin-star will focus on high-quality gastronomy.

Over in Verbier, Col des Gentianes will welcome Black Tap, the renowned authentic American burger restaurant. Enjoy CrazyShakes®, a cold craft beer or an award-winning burger at over 9,800 feet. Another must for this winter is “22”, Verbier’s first speakeasy. Hiding behind a secret door with a focus on local and seasonal products, we are pretty sure this address won’t stay secret for long.

In St. Moritz, Badrutt’s Palace Hotel is bringing its renowned culinary experience to the slopes. From the 2021/22 winter season, Badrutt’s will manage El Paradiso mountain restaurant and club, elevating it to a whole new level with its esteemed service, exclusive events, celebrated culinary experiences and after-hours entertainment.

Across the border in France, La Folie Douce Val d’Isere is opening a brand-new restaurant called Cucucina. Inspired by Italian Renaissance artists, the restaurant pays homage to Leonardo da Vinci with busts and sculptures dotted around, including an impressive four-metre-tall horse. Locally sourced French and Italian products are used to create simple but hearty dishes. Also showcasing Italian flavours is the new restaurant LOULOU at Airelles. Chef Benoit Dargere’s menu incorporates a Mediterranean vibe with a subtle wintery twist. Also opening in December 2021, Poya boasts a speakeasy vibe with its mixologists and open-plan kitchen.

It is no surprise to see the gastronomic hub of Courchevel serve up something new this winter. We are particularly excited by Sylvestre Wahid’s new concept at the Grande Alps. Previously at the helm of Le Strato when it was awarded two Michelin stars, the chef serves up a taster menu featuring 15 dishes to just four tables of guests. Another brand-new experience this winter, L’Apogee offers you the opportunity to spend a whole day with Chef Jean-Luc Lefrancoi who loves to ski as much as he loves to cook. Head out for a spot of ski touring before enjoying a delicious picnic prepared by the chef himself. Afterwards, there’s a 90-minute demonstration back in his culinary kingdom where he will share the recipe of his signature dish, washed down with a glass of champagne.

For those who like to shop as much as they like to eat, Le Velvette store in Les Gets allows you to enjoy a coffee, brunch or meal whilst hunting for bargains at the same time. Children have their own play area to amuse them whilst you peruse the decorative accessories on offer.

Lech is well known for being a gourmet village with its high density of award-winning restaurants and excellent wine cellars. From 3 to 11 December, the Arlberg will once again transform into a vineyard with over 20 epicurean events. With plans for a wine cinema, culinary tour of Lech’s top establishments as well as sophisticated tastings, this is an event not to be missed.

Cortina d’Ampezzo is home to a number of excellent restaurants. This year sees the modern hotel and restaurant, Dolomiti Lodge Alvera, expanding with a new dining experience featuring a 360° food experience including cooking classes with Michelin-starred chefs.

For further Michelin-star cooking, a visit to the Alpenroyal Grand Hotel (Mario Porcelli) in Selva Val Gardena and the Hotel Gardena Grodnerhof (Reimund Brunner) in Ortisei is recommended. Whilst not new restaurants, this pair of Michelin-star chefs showcase local produce in new innovative ways and both restaurants provide a gourmet experience not to be missed.
