New lifts and ski areas for 2022/2023

This year, the funicular that links Sierre to Crans Montana (originating back to 1911) has been upgraded for the 22/23 winter season. The brand new funicular runs from 12 December 2022 and is over 4 km long and will take 12 minutes at a speed of 8 m/second.

Verbier has also seen an infrastructure upgrade with the Pasay chairlift in Bruson having been replaced by a six-seater chair with bubble reducing the journey time from 11 minutes to less than five.

For the speedy skiers of the group, Verbier has a brand new dedicated race area that is accessible to anyone at the top of La Tzoumaz - Savoleyres sector. The race area has a permanent timing system and a giant slalom of around 15 gates.

In Morzine, the recreational areas of the ski domain have had a makeover. Adrenaline-seekers will be able to compete in the XL version of boardercross, with a new starting point from the Raverettes chairlift. The snow park has been redesigned and enlarged to include new modules, rails, and jumps. Non-skiers can also enjoy the slopes at the end of the day when the ski lifts have closed; ride the piste basher to the upper slopes of the ski area. On arrival, relax and enjoy mulled wine around the fire followed by a meal of Savoyard tartiflette in a traditional yurt, followed by an exhilarating descent by sled, complete with a headlamp, to reach the twinkling lights of the village.

This year Val Thorens will launch two new areas where children and beginners, as well as their families, can practice and progress while having fun. For some entertainment after a day on the slopes, a brand-new Snow Tubing run will open this winter.

New Restaurants for 2022/2023

At Precise Tale Seehof Davos, there is a breath of fresh air in the kitchen as Austrian Peter Hummel brings with him a wealth of experience from his international cooking career as he takes over as head chef. Out of the three hotel restaurants, “Chesa” is Hummel’s focus, with Hummel wanting to cook his way back into the hearts of visitors by incorporating both Graubünden cuisine and Swiss classics such as Zürcher Geschnetzeltes.

In Verbier, the Pasay snack bar has also been renovated and expanded for the winter. It now becomes a traditional mountain restaurant serving local products with a panoramic terrace.

This season, Courchevel also welcomes a new Michelin-starred restaurant with chef Sylvestre Wahid in Les Grandes Alpes and new for the apres ski scene in Courchevel is Le Bar de Madame, accessible by the piste Dou du Midi.

Over in St Martin de Belleville, the new restaurant La Table du M is the perfect spot to share a light lunch, a comforting après-ski or a cosy dinner by the fire, whilst just in time for the 2022-23 winter season, Six Senses Crans-Montana is also scheduled to open in Crans Montana offering serenity and adventure this winter season. Six Senses Crans Montana will have two restaurants with inspiration taken from the rich colours of the seasons in the Alps. The signature restaurant offers Japanese-influenced specialities from hoba miso to hot pots.

New Events for Winter 2022/2023

One of the most highly anticipated events of the 22/23 ski season is the Alpine Ski World Championship which will be held in Méribel and Courchevel from February 6th to 19th.

This important sporting event in the world of alpine skiing, is an excellent opportunity to stay in a luxury chalet in Courchevel and see the best athletes in the world compete on the new slope of Eclipse in Courchevel and Roc de Fer in Méribel.

New Activities for Winter 2022/2023

Built this summer, another addition to Verbier is its new panoramic platform on the summit of Mont Fort at an altitude of 3,330m. Visitors can now enjoy an exceptional 360-degree panorama of the entire Alpine range from Mont Blanc to the Matterhorn. This new infrastructure will complete a package of already available attractions in the area, including a Via Cordata, Via Ferrata and the Mont 4 Zipline.

Good news for children under 8 visiting Val d’Isere; they can ski for free and those aged 8 to 18 can get a day pass for the Tignes - Val d’Isere ski area for EUR 50. For a fun apres ski activity, Val Adventures tree top adventure course is now open and Evolution 2 are offering half-days of tandem speed-riding with an instructor, thanks to new specially designed tandem wings.

In Tignes, Oxygene ski school also proposes to introduce infants to snowboarding. From age three up, infants can ride without parents, supervised by qualified snowboard instructors. Throughout the winter season, Tignes will also see pop-up concerts on the slopes so make sure you take a break and enjoy a refreshing drink whilst listening to live music.

For a magical experience in Megeve, why not try the new igloo adventure for this winter season? Starting with a snowshoe walk under the stars and guided by the light of lanterns, you will eventually arrive at a beautiful village made up of seven igloos able to welcome up to 14 people. Feast on a warm fondue and mountain tales around the fire before settling down for the night. In the morning, enjoy breakfast before making your way back on snowshoes to the village centre.
