Refuge du Montenvers
Another Chamonix restaurant with a view to make the list, Refuge du Montenvers is positioned at the edge of the Mer de Glace, a half-hour train journey from Chamonix . The menu features regional cuisine including tartiflette and fondue and is open only for lunch to non-hotel guests. The hotel is also home to the Panoramique Mer de Glace, a bistro with mesmerising views of the Aguilles du Dru peaks and spectacular valley glacier.

Le 3842
Situated on the summit of Aiguille du Midi at 3842m, this year-round restaurant is one of the highest lift accessed restaurants in Europe. Serving locally-sourced, seasonal cuisine, you can enjoy a fine dining experience accompanies by spectacular views. The menu changes every week and has something for everyone with a new vegan menu.

Les Vielles Luges (Les Houches)
One of the cosiest Chamonix mountain restaurants, Les Vielles Luges is accessible in winter on skis from the main pistes of Les Houches, or by a 20 minute hike from the Maison Neuve chairlift. Set within a 250-year old farmhouse, this rustic restaurant serves up hearty Savoyard specialities including ‘farcon’ (potato and cheese bake with prunes and bacon). The perfect spot to refuel when a blizzard is raging outside. No card payments.

La Cremerie du Glacier (Argentiere)
Nestled in the heart of the forest d’Argentiere next to the Grand Montets ski lift, this traditional Chamonix restaurant is always a favourite with locals and visitors alike. Open in summer and winter, La Cremerie du Glacier serves up traditional Savoyard dishes in an authentic setting.

Restaurant Albert 1er
This Chamonix Michelin-star restaurant is, without doubt, the leading gastronomic restaurant in town. Chef Damien Leveau’s cuisine takes influences from the region (wild Arctic char, Dace and Pike from Lake Geneva) and makes the most of herbs from the aromatic garden. Your meal is best accompanied by one of 19,000 bottles collected in the wine cellar. The setting is relaxed modern elegance and the service flawless.

Le Comptoir des Alpes
Set in a modern hotel, this gourmet restaurant has a French-Italian menu with plenty of nods to the Savoie region. Characterised by bold flavours, sample fresh, elegant dishes such as grilled lobster tagliatelle, confit pork belly and tiramisu.

Le Matafan
Located at the Mont Blanc hotel in the heart of town, Le Matafan serves haute cuisine in elegant surroundings. The menu is inspired by the local valley and neighbouring Val d’Aosta in Italy changes every two weeks and is devised by Michelin-star chef, Mickey Bourdillat so expect a gourmet evening.

Atmosphere
Perched on the edge of the river Arve in the town centre, Atmosphere is arguably one of the best value restaurants in Chamonix from a gastronomic perspective. Ask for a table overlooking the river and enjoy regional specialities and game in season whilst perusing the splendid wine list.

Le Maison Carrier
Albert 1er’s second gastronomic restaurant, Le Maison Carrier serves ancestral regional specialities with a gourmet spin. A fusion between past and present, Le Maison Carrier offers a more relaxed, authentic setting than its grander brother next door. Don’t miss the sumptuous carousel of desserts on the antique furniture in the centre of the restaurant.

Akashon
Located in the centre of Chamonix, Akashon welcomes you into its industrial-style interior. Chef Julien Binet has created a menu of traditional and refined cuisine with daily specials.

La Caleche
One of our favourite restaurants in Chamonix for traditional Savoyard cuisine, La Caleche has a local, rustic feel with over 20 hearty Savoyard specialities including fondue, racelette, pierrade and more. A great setting for large groups and family meals out.

Le Cap Horn
Specialising in seafood, Cap Horn has become one of the most popular Chamonix restaurants. Located on Rue du Moulin beside the River Arve, this modern restaurant has everything from seafood to local specialities and a hose of meat dishes to choose from. There is a great value lunchtime menu, an oyster bar and a range of sushi platters which can be enjoyed in the wine bar, Les Caves, downstairs.

Casa Valerio
For the best pizzas in town, head to Casa Valerio on Rue Lyret. This family-friendly restaurant in Chamonix is the perfect choice for a relaxed dinner with fantastic wine. They also have an extensive takeaway menu if your prefer to dine together in the privacy of your chalet.

Bizes
This buzzing restaurant in the centre of town is run by Sanna Jesson who has over 20 years experience as a chef. Using a specific slow-cooking Josper oven, Sanna and her chefs produce sublime meat, fish and vegetables. This rustic-chic venue has a riverside terrace as well as vegan and vegetarian options.

La Cabane des Praz
Just outside the centre of Chamonix on the edge of the golf course in Le Praz, La Cabane des Praz offers excellent contemporary French cuisine in relaxed and welcoming surroundings. Dine in front of a roaring fire in winter or enjoy breathtaking views of the Mont Blanc from the sunny terrace in summer.

International/Fusion Cuisine in Chamonix

Munchie
Book well in advance if you are planning to visit Munchie, one of the valley’s most popular restaurants. This trendy Swedish restaurant has a great location right on Rue du Moulin in the centre of town. Contemporary cuisine with flavours of Asia in a classic dish defines the menu and diners are advised to order two to three dishes per person to share.

Mumma
Designed with sharing in mind, Mumma is the vision of chef David Lillieroth. Serving Pan-Asian cuisine, indulge in fried mushroom gyozo, steamed duck dumpling with grated fois gras or panko fried shrimps to name just a few of the mouth-watering dishes on the menu. Linked to Mumma is the informal terrace and bar, Le Shack, which offers an everchanging menu of Asian tapas to be enjoyed with a cold beer or Aperol Spritz.

Annapurna

For the best Indian food in Chamonix, head to Annapurna situated at the start of the main pedestrian street in Chamonix. The menu includes classic Indian favourites such as bhajees, pakora, samosas and a great selection of tandoori dishes cooked in a traditional Tandoor oven.

Casual Dining in Chamonix

MOÖ Bar
A lively bar and restaurant, MOÖ is popular with locals and visitors alike. Open for lunch and dinner seven days a week, their homemade burgers are legendary but they also offer a chicken and falafel salad if you have something a little healthier in mind.

Cool Cats
Located on the Rue des Moulins, Cool Cats is known for serving the best artisan hot dogs in Chamonix valley. Children and dog friendly, they mainly offer takeaway but do have a little terrace outside for those who wish to dine in.

MBC
On the Route de Bouchet (the road out of town, towards Switzerland) Micro Brasserie de Chamonix sets the standard for craft beers which are brewed on site using only the finest ingredients and freshest water in the Alps. Accompany your beer with a plate of BBQ ribs, fish and chips or chicken wings.
