Situated in the Three Valleys, Courchevel 1650 is one of five villages that make up the resort of Courchevel. Ideally positioned, Courchevel 1650 (also known as Moriond) lies just a little further down the mountain from its glamorous neighbour Courchevel 1850, providing access to the extensive ski area without the crowds.
Unlike glitzy 1850, Courchevel 1650 has an old village core with quiet suburbs containing luxury chalets and modern hotels. There is a lively town centre and excellent facilities making it ideal for families who wish to ski in Courchevel without the price tag.
Winter in Courchevel 1650
Part of the world’s largest ski area, Courchevel 1650 has access to over 600 km of pistes. The slopes around 1650 are quieter than those up at 1850 and are great for beginners with two designated areas - one at the foot of the resort and one at the top of the Ariondaz bubble, complete with tipis and a covered magic carpet. Intermediates will enjoy the red Chapelets run on the edge of the ski area and there is plenty of challenging skiing for experts as you get further out towards Courchevel 1850.
Off the slopes, there is plenty of entertainment on offer including the adrenaline-inducing Moriond Racing toboggan run. This 3 km run is a fantastic circuit with eight tunnels and tricky hair-pin bends to negotiate. You can also explore the beautiful landscape on foot; Courchevel has nine snowshoeing itineraries for all abilities as well as numerous hiking trails to discover.

When it comes to dining in Courchevel 1650 there are plenty of good restaurants to choose from, both on and off the mountain. One of our top picks on the mountain is Le Bel Air, a friendly spot at the top of the gondola in Moriond serving salads, omelettes, grilled meat and pasta dishes accompanied by fantastic views of the slopes. Another recommendation is La Cave des Creux at the top of the Aiguille de Fruits chairlift. This tastefully renovated hut serves traditional and Asian-influenced dishes such as Thai-style spare ribs and Asian-style tuna steak.
In resort, try Bistrot Le C for exquisite French cuisine or Le Petit Savoyard for Savoyard specialities and wood-oven pizzas. Copina offers Spanish-influenced tapas, cocktails and craft beers. Fire and Ice at Portetta Hotel is the perfect place for a relaxing vin chaud at the end of the day or an ice shot depending on your mood. For late-night action, the Funky Fox stays open into the early hours with live DJs and bands providing the entertainment.
Top Events in Courchevel 1650
Spectators can look forward to a number of exciting events taking place in Courchevel 1650 throughout the winter season. Occurring during February and early March is the spectacular International Festival of Pyrotechnic Art. Touring the villages, the festival sees pyrotechnic artists from around the world compete in one of the most dazzling shows of its kind. Another night time event to look forward to in February is the ESF Ski Show Magic Night. This involves ski, snowboard, cross-country ski and other winter sport demonstrations, followed by a torchlit descent, fireworks and traditional mulled wine.
Towards the end of the season is the legendary 3 Vallees Enduro; a day of skiing, snowboarding or telemark across Meribel, Courchevel and Val Thorens for amateurs. Teams of three can enjoy a day of special races and events across three resorts, followed by a huge buffet or barbecue. A great way to explore the Three Valleys, races are open to all ages and abilities whether you are a beginner or expert.

Whilst Courchevel 1650 might not be the obvious choice for a summer holiday, it is in fact the perfect destination to recharge your batteries, spend time with family and enjoy numerous sporting activities.
