This has resulted in an enhanced ski area linking Sedrun and Disentis with 180 km of skiing to discover. As well as great skiing, there is an influx of gourmet restaurants and luxury ski chalets and hotels such as the Chedi Hotel Andermatt.

Family Ski Holidays Andermatt

Family group ski holidays in Andermatt have something for everyone to enjoy. An authentic village, Andermatt holidays provide a friendly atmosphere with a variety of skiing and off-slope activities to try, as well as several family-friendly ski chalets in Andermatt. Located on the sunny slope between Nätschen and Gütsch, the Matti KidsArena is the ideal place for young children to improve their skiing during their stay and can be easily reached with the Gütsch Express gondola or the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway. Children can use the magic carpet to practise on the slopes and in the large snowpark.

Located near the Sedrun railway station, the Druni KidsArena is also a popular spot for families skiing in Andermatt. Children can take the conveyor belt to the top before skiing down between colourful figures to practise their turns. Those with more skiing experience can also take the children’s ski lift or one of two tow lifts to the blue pistes right next door. For children looking to try an alternative winter activity, there is also a snow-tubing run in this area with tubes available to rent.

Non-skiing members of the family visiting Andermatt Switzerland can enjoy the numerous alternative winter activities on offer including winter hiking, tobogganing and horse-drawn sleigh rides, as well as ice skating and fat biking

Come lunchtime there are plenty of family-friendly restaurants to enjoy in the Andermatt ski area. Located next door to the Matti KidsArena, the Matti restaurant has an indoor playground and bear cave for children to enjoy whilst the restaurant Druni has a large restaurant with favourite regional dishes available.

Andermatt at Christmas is particularly popular with families, as are New Year ski breaks in Andermatt so we would recommend booking well in advance for these peak weeks.

Skiing in Andermatt

Andermatt skiing provides skiers with two areas to explore. More suited to intermediate or mixed-ability skiers, the Nätschen area is the gentler and sunnier area of the two, whilst the Gemsstock mountain is high and north-facing making it very reliable for snow and best suited to advanced skiers.

Whilst Andermatt does have two children's ski areas, it is not a resort that we particularly recommend for complete beginners. Instead, the slopes are more suited to intermediate skiers looking to take their skiing to the next level. On the Gemsstock mountain, intermediate skiers can enjoy the long red run from the top cable car station, as well as a number of shorter runs around the mid-station. The Nätschen and linked Sedrun areas also provide a great variety of intermediate terrain.

Located in the Swiss Alps, Andermatt is an excellent ski destination for expert skiers. Gemsstock mountain has numerous long on and off-piste areas to explore and thanks to its powder, Andermatt is a free-riders paradise.
