Luxury Chalets in Saas Fee

Leo Trippi has a small yet carefully selected portfolio of luxury chalets in Saas Fee. Accommodation ranges from cosy family retreats to vast chalets for large groups.

Approximately 2 km long with the main slopes and the majority of the lifts at one end, Saas Fee is easy to navigate on foot. Restaurants are based around the church square and Dorfstrasse and you will find some lively apres-ski bars on your route home at the end of the day.

There is a good choice of apartments and luxury catered ski chalets in the centre of the resort and within easy reach of the lifts.

However, the larger Saas Fee chalets tend to be based at Honeggu which is a little further outside the centre. The distance is walkable yet it might be wise to leave your skis and boots in a locker at one of the lift stations. After stopping for a few beers on the way home, you can always give your feet a rest and take an electro-taxi back to your luxury chalet.

Skiing in Saas Fee

Ski holidays in Saas Fee take place in one of the highest ski areas in the Alps, making it popular for both summer skiing on the glacier as well as in winter over a wider area of terrain. With the majority of the slopes located at an altitude of above 2,500m, the snow is usually very reliable. With the ski area spanning around 100 km, ski holidays in Saas Fee are best suited to confident beginners and intermediates.

To reach the resort's glacier at 3,500m, take the access gondola to Felskinn, followed by an underground funicular that speeds through the mountain to Mitellalin and the resort's highest slopes. Whilst here, make sure you pay a visit to the world's highest revolving restaurant, Allain, which has a revolving floor and 360-degree views of the surrounding ring of 4,000m peaks. You might also wish to take in the Ice Pavilion whilst you're here. Built deep in the glacier, find out how the ice was formed, experience an avalanche simulation and admire the stunning ice sculptures.

With plenty of gentle red runs, the glacier area and top half of the mountain are ideal for confident beginners and leisurely intermediates whilst the steeper reds on the lower runs back to the village and in the Längfluh, Spielboden and Plattjen sectors are better suited to adventurous intermediates. A dedicated beginner area is located on the edge of the village and is covered by a special beginner lift pass.

Whilst there are few steep pistes to challenge experienced skiers and limited off-piste, Saas Fee is popular as a starting point for ski touring. The area is also popular with freestylers and snowboarders due to its terrific terrain parks. The Morenia park, below Felskinn, has rails, kickers, boxes, tables and lines for all ability levels.

Best Bars & Restaurants in Saas Fee

Even if you are staying in a catered ski chalet in Saas Fee, you will want to experience the local restaurant scene. On the mountain, Brittaniahutte offers a simple Swiss menu of soups, pasta, sausages and rosti, whilst Spielboden is known for its Mediterranean dishes and regional specialities. Two restaurants are located at the Capra hotel - a relaxed brassiere and formal fine dining restaurant.

Before returning to your luxury chalet in Saas Fee, you may wish to stop off for an apres-ski tipple or two. For loud music and apres-ski partying, Black Bull Snowbar is highly recommended. Rudi's Snowbar in front of Hotel Mistral and just off the main street is another popular stop.
