Luxury Ski Chalets Zermatt

Enjoy a luxury ski holiday in Zermatt with our exclusive collection of luxury chalets.

Luxury Ski Holidays Zermatt

Few ski resorts can match Zermatt’s perfect combination of excellent skiing, reliable snow, magnificent scenery and superb mountain restaurants. Luxury chalets in Zermatt are in abundance, yet this attractive car-free village manages to retain its traditional charm. The bustling main street is lined with bars, restaurants and designer shops, whilst electric taxis and horse-drawn carriages transport visitors around the resort.

Reaching heights of 3,883 metres, Zermatt is home to Switzerland’s highest ski area, the Matterhorn Paradise. Linked to Italy’s Breuil-Cervinia, Zermatt offers 360 km of fantastic skiing and is well-suited to adventurous intermediates. The resort offers a wide variety of off-piste skiing, and if the runs reached from the lift system aren’t enough, heli-skiing is a popular alternative. With so much to offer, it is no wonder that visitors from around the world come for a luxury ski holiday in Zermatt

Non-skiers will also enjoy the luxury ski resort of Zermatt, with plenty of alternative winter activities to try. We recommend taking a snowshoe hike from your Zermatt chalet, stopping for lunch at one of the resort’s renowned mountain restaurants before heading into town for a guided tour of the village or a visit to the Matterhorn Museum.

Ski holidays to Zermatt are popular for the number of events held during the season, including the famous Zermatt Unplugged acoustic music festival in April, which attracts several famous international musicians each year. With summer skiing on the glacier and beautiful hiking trails to explore, summer is also a popular time of year to visit Zermatt.

Luxury Chalets & Apartments in Zermatt

Leo Trippi has a fantastic portfolio of Zermatt luxury chalets ranging from cosy self-catered retreats to grand chalets with Matterhorn views and exceptional catered service.

With an office in the resort, we are well-placed to recommend how to get the most out of your Zermatt ski holiday. With three lift stations accessing different parts of the mountain, it is important to think about location when choosing your Zermatt chalet rental.

Whilst there is no ski-in/ski-out centrally located accommodation, there are plenty of Zermatt chalets and apartments within walking distance of the Sunnegga funicular and Matterhorn Express at either end of the resort.

Luxury Zermatt ski chalets close to the main street are convenient for accessing the resort's many bars and restaurants, as well as the Gornergrat railway (opposite the main railway station). Those that prefer to be away from the hustle and bustle might be attracted to Winkelmatten, a small hamlet that’s around a 15-minute walk from the resort centre. Chalets in Zermatt with the best views tend to be located in the Petit Village.

Skiing in Zermatt

Zermatt’s 200 km ski area is made up of three linked sectors - Sunnegga-Blauherd-Rothorn, Gornergrat-Stockhorn and Trockener Steg-Schwarzee. Zermatt is also linked to the Italian resort of Cervinia and together they provide an impressive 360 km of terrain to explore. Despite the resort being car-free, it is easy to reach the different ski areas from your luxury chalet in Zermatt, either on foot, by electric taxi or with the free bus service which makes its way around the town at regular intervals.

When to Ski in Zermatt

Whilst it is possible to ski 365 days of the year, the best time to ski in Zermatt is from mid-December to mid-April. Most lifts will close from 1 May leaving only the smaller summer skiing area on the glacier open. December is a magical time for a Zermatt skiing holiday with plenty of festive celebrations over Christmas and New Year, whilst January is a quieter time on the slopes. February sees families arrive for half term holidays whilst March and April bring warmer weather and Easter festivities.

Beginner Skiing in Zermatt

Whilst there are nursery slopes spread across the mountain, Zermatt is not a popular resort for beginners. However, it is worth remembering that with the Wolli Card, children up to age nine travel free on all mountain lifts. The most popular place to learn to ski is the Sunnegga area, which is home to ‘Wolli’s Park’ with play zones and four magic carpets. Those progressing can ski the blue run down to Findeln or head over to Gornergrat/Riffelberg ski area where there are a series of rolling blue runs.

Intermediate & Advanced Skiing in Zermatt

Zermatt is an intermediate’s paradise with the majority of slopes classified as red, whilst the main attraction for expert skiers is the off-piste and yellow itineraries. Freestyle skiers and boarders can tackle the resort's fun park on the glacier which offers slopestyle and boardercross.
