Top 5 Winter Activities in Megève

Close to Geneva, Megeve offers an abundance of activities & events during the winter season. Here are five of the best.

Serena Norton

Surrounded by three alpine massifs, Megève is a traditional Haute-Savoie village with a fantastic range of cultural and sporting events and activities on offer. Just an hour from Geneva Airport, Megève epitomises the French “art de vivre” with 75 restaurants including eight Michelin-stars, various art galleries, several spas as well as an array of luxury chalets and hotels. During the winter months, Megève has a diverse offering for all ages so whether you enjoy speeding down the slopes or enjoying the scenery at a slower pace there is something for everyone.

Hurtle down the slopes on a toboggan

Megève has many designated sledging areas from the Sledge 4S (sledge on a rail) at the foot of the Jaillet cable car to the brand new Laluge tobogganing piste on the Princesse sector which winds 300m from the summit of Mont d’Arbois through the heart of the forest. The run is open to ages 10 and upwards and a helmet is compulsory. The Sledge 4S covers over 715 metres of descent in six minutes and is suitable for children over the age of three. Families with young children can enjoy sledging at Livraz, an area reserved for two to six-year-olds. For night owls, Evolution 2 offers an exciting Alpage Evening beginning with a snowmobile ride to Chalet d’Alpage where you will enjoy an authentic Savoyard dinner. This is followed by a thrilling toboggan run back down under the twinkling stars.

Discover the Mont Blanc massif by plane

Take off from Megève altiport and explore the astounding scenery of arguably the most stunning massif in Europe. In a 40-minute flight, tour the magnificent glaciers of Le Tour and Argentiere from a plane with a panoramic glass roof allowing you to film and take photos. You can also choose to discover La Vallee Blanche during a 30-minute flight at an altitude of 2,800m taking you from the North face of the Grandes Jorasses to the Mer de Glace. Flights are operated with a maximum of four people and each passenger has an individual headset to listen to comments throughout the flight. Prices start at €120 for an adult and €60 for a child but group discounts are available. Paragliding and helicopter flights are other ways to experience Megève from the air.

Get competitive in the ultimate “Paintball Experience”

Fun for children and adults alike, Paintball Experience offers five different activities with over 15 game scenarios and four maintained playgrounds. Choose from a classic game of Paintball, the Lasergame Experience outdoors, Archery Tag (a new game from Australia combining Paintball & Lasergame) or Airsoft (a more oriented military-style simulation). Perfect for video-game obsessives, Paintball Experience gets you out into the fresh air and running around. To tackle Paintball and Lasergame you must be over six years old, for Archery Tag over nine years old whilst Airsoft is only available for those 16 upwards.
