Right above town is Aspen Mountain (otherwise known as Ajax) and to the west, Highlands and Buttermilk. There are various activities to enjoy too, from snow biking and tubing to snowshoe tours and ice skating. Skiing in Aspen




Open from mid-November to late April, the resort combines four varied mountain to provide 5505 acres of ski terrain. Covered with one lift pass, there is plenty of terrain to keep skiers entertained during their ski holiday to Aspen.

Ideal for beginner skiers and children, Buttermilk is home to the X Games with a terrain park for lovers of slopestyle and halfpipe. Providing the largest ski area is Snowmass which covers 3332 acres. Here children can also make use of the excellent ski school. Starting from two and a half years old, children can enjoy a safe and nurturing program to introduce them to the fun of winter sports whilst the older members of the family can take part in the Highlands Program for 7 to 14-year-olds. This scheme is aimed at developing all-around skiers, working on skill building across the mountains with themes including balance training, edging skills and freestyle.

Families and children will also feel very comfortable in Snowmass with easy areas including Fanny Hill and Assay Hill. Once skiers have built their confidence in the Elk Camp Meadows Learning Area, the slope down to the valley is a fun route to take to work on what you have learned.

Aspen Highlands is very popular with experienced skiers as the home to the Highland Bowl. Accessible only by snowcat, hiking or skinning, this area has some of the steepest descents in Colorado with spectacular views at the summit of Maroon Bells and Pyramid Peak to the south, as well as views of Red Mountain and Aspen Mountain.

Aspen Mountain is in the centre of the town and is best suited to intermediate and expert skiers.
