New Year Skiing Holidays

Being early in the season, it is wise to choose your resort carefully when planning a New Year ski holiday. Snow-sure slopes are a must, as is a festive atmosphere with a range of entertainment to suit all ages.

New Year in Swiss Alps

Whether you are looking for wild parties or quality time with family and friends, Switzerland is the perfect destination for skiing over New Year.

In Crans Montana, the celebrations see several artists and DJs performing in the centre from 9 pm followed by an impressive light show and a festive countdown. The most fashionable way to spend New Year's eve is in St Moritz. Ride the funicular up to White Marmot Restaurant & Bar for a five-course menu, live music with DJ, dance entertainment and more. Or head to Badrutt's Palace for glitz and glamour before ending your evening back at your luxury St Moritz chalet. For something a little different, Klosters hosts a traditional pig race known as the Hotschrennen on New Year's Day. Cheered on by guests and locals, 10 pigs race over the finish line, with the winning piglet becoming the village mascot for the year. Taking New Year celebrations seriously, Verbier luxury chalets are a popular choice when it comes to renting a property for New Year. The town is full of revellers popping champagne corks, fireworks and ticketed parties.

New Year in French Alps

Home to several high-altitude resorts, France is particularly popular for ski holidays in December and over New Year.

Many hotels host their own New Year's Eve celebrations including Les Airelles in Courchevel 1850 which is going back to the 70s this year with a disco-fever evening. In Megeve, ESF instructors take to the slopes in a torchlit descent down Jaillet. Later on, join revellers in the central square for fireworks and live music. Dance the night away in Meribel to Makash Waloo who is playing in Le Rambler from 11 pm or head to the snow front on Tignes Le Lac for an open-air nightclub experience. For families with young children, Les Gets is the ideal resort when renting a New Year ski chalet in France. There's a marshmallow party with hot chocolate for the youngsters as well as a Champagne and Champomy bar with fireworks lighting up the ski.

New Year in Austrian Alps

From party-centric St Anton to the more refined resorts of Kitzbuhel and Lech, New Year skiing holidays in Austria have something for everyone.

The place to party at New Year is St Anton, home to some of the most famous apres-ski bars in the world. Mooserwirt offers light shows, smoke machines, DJs and dancing on tables. Since 1955, Kitzbuhel has rung in the New Year with spectacular fireworks and a pyrotechnic display from Kitzbuhel's best skiers and riders. For a more low-key celebration, why not relax back at your luxury chalet and make the most of the wonderful facilities on offer?
