Traditional chalet close to Matterhorn Express

Chalet Zen’s biggest advantage is its location. Set just above the Matterhorn Express, it gives you quick access to the main lift up to the Klein Matterhorn glacier, while still being within walking distance of the centre of Zermatt.

Inside, the chalet has a traditional Swiss feel, with antique furniture, rugs, artwork and plenty of wood throughout. It has not been heavily modernised, but it remains comfortable and full of character.

The chalet was created by combining two apartments, which explains the slightly unusual layout. Rather than one main living space, there are two separate sitting and dining areas, with the lower floor typically used for breakfast, afternoon tea and apéritifs, and the upper floor used for dinner alongside the main professional kitchen. There is also a second kitchen on the lower floor for guest use.

The bedroom arrangement works particularly well for families. There are three double bedrooms (two can be configured as twins), along with a family suite made up of a double bedroom and an adjoining bunk room. Several of the bedrooms have south-facing balconies, and from the upper levels, there are views across the village, surrounding mountains and part of the Matterhorn.

Outside, the private spa area includes a Jacuzzi and a sauna housed in a converted gondola, allowing guests to rejuvenate after skiing.

Layout & Space

Most bathrooms feature a shower-over-bath configuration. If you prefer a walk-in shower, there’s only one in the chalet.
From the main road, there are steps up to the chalet, and the stairs inside are also quite steep. This is worth bearing in mind for anyone with reduced mobility or very young children.
There is no dedicated ski room as such. Instead, boot warmers are set into a side corridor, with a small wooden ski locker next to the entrance.

Design & Style

The chalet has plenty of character and a comfortable, old-school feel, but it has not been extensively modernised.

Suitability for Families & Groups

If you're travelling with a larger group, Penthouse Zen is right next door and can sleep an additional six guests.
