About Villars-sur-Ollon

Chalet Fleur des Neiges enjoys a private setting surrounded by wooded gardens in the charming village of Villars-Sur-Ollon. This attractive village has an idyllic location in the western Swiss Vaud Alps, sitting on a protected south-facing sunny plateau at an altitude of 1,300m. Villars is a true working village which thrives all year round and has strict building regulations in place to ensure the region maintains its alpine character.

Popular in summer and winter, Villars hosts events year-round from music and art festivals to vintage car rallies and the IFSC World Cup Climbing Championships. The area has three of the most sought-after international schools in the world (College Alpin International Beau Soleil, Aiglon College & La Garenne) and its proximity to Geneva means it is popular with second-home owners and skiers looking for a short break or weekend trip.

Where is Chalet Fleur des Neiges located?

Located on a private road in the heart of Villars, Chalet Fleur des Neiges enjoys a south-facing position, spectacular views and generous wooded gardens. Although it is quiet, giving you the feeling that you are high in the mountains, in actual fact the village with its shops, bars and restaurants and the cog railway to the slopes is just a five-minute walk away.

What was the design concept of the chalet?

Chalet Fleur des Neiges was seven years in the making, from planning and demolition to re-construction and design. The original concept of the project was to build a chalet that offered every comfort that a principal residence would require, yet the aesthetic appearance of the home was to remain visually technology-free. The owners also wanted the chalet to be filled with as much natural light as possible, adding 20 Velux roof windows, enlarging every existing window and adding to the height of the glass doors in the main salon.

The other main consideration was to keep the chalets traditional character, making sure the exterior design fitted comfortably into the landscape with the interior providing a series of spaces that flowed together. Inside, the concept was to create a chalet that you could live in all year round, not just in the depths of winter. Grey was therefore chosen as the principal neutral colour - a great colour for summer or winter complementing the colours of each season. All of the decor and furnishings were chosen to give a fresh contemporary alpine feel - a space to feel at home in and enjoy.

What are the highlights of Chalet Fleur des Neiges?

The chalet boasts magnificent views of the Dents du Midi mountain range and has many balconies and terraces where guests can enjoy picnics and barbecues. On the large dining terrace is an outdoor Jacuzzi perfectly positioned for admiring the views and the sunset. In the winter guests can use the ‘Carnotzet’ in the garden which has a working stone fireplace for cosy candlelit fondue or raclette evenings.

With an open plan living and dining area as well as a large salon with 17th-century stone fireplace, Chalet Fleur des Neiges has plenty of space for guests to spread out and find their own corner. The kitchen with its stone worktops and zinc island is a chef’s dream and there’s a temperature-controlled wine cave too - perfect for an apres-ski tipple or two.

The chalet has seven en-suite bedrooms, the highlight being the master suite on the top floor offering spectacular mountain views and a delightful en-suite bathroom with a double-ended metal boat bathtub and large walk-in rain shower. Three of the bedrooms have sofa beds whilst another has its own kitchen and can be used as a one-bedroom apartment (perfect for a nanny or teenager).

After a day on the slopes, relaxation is encouraged at the chalet. Its cosy cinema room seats 13 and there is a large sauna with mood lighting where you can listen to music via the integrated sound system.

To summarise, this wonderful chalet has been designed with family and entertaining friends in mind and is truly a chalet for all occasions and seasons.
