Cortina d'Ampezzo's ski terrain covers 120 kilometres of pistes spread across three distinct and unlinked ski areas: Faloria-Cristallo, Tofana-Socrepes, and Cinque Torri-Lagazuoi. These areas offer diverse skiing experiences, from beginner-friendly slopes to challenging runs for experts.

Though not vast compared to other European ski resorts, Cortina's slopes are known for their beauty, variety, and excellent snow coverage, with 95% of the runs equipped with snowmaking capabilities.

If you're a beginner or looking for gentler terrain, the lower slopes of Tofana-Socrepes offer wide, easy blue runs served by high-speed chairlifts. It’s the perfect spot for learning to ski or families seeking a more relaxed skiing experience.

The Faloria-Cristallo area, with its 20 kilometres of pistes, is a haven for confident intermediates and speed enthusiasts. The red and black runs here are perfect for fast cruising, while the panoramic views from Faloria, perched at 2,123 meters, provide the perfect backdrop for a day on the slopes. Faloria also boasts one of the most scenic cable car rides, taking skiers from the town centre up to the higher elevations, where they can enjoy stunning vistas before heading back down the mountain.

Cinque Torri-Lagazuoi is perhaps Cortina’s most visually stunning ski area. Located 17 kilometres from the town, it can be reached by bus or via the Skyline gondola. With 24 kilometres of runs and the iconic rock spires of Cinque Torri as a backdrop, the scenery here is nothing short of spectacular. Our highlight is the Armentarola run, an epic 8-kilometre red piste that weaves through the Hidden Valley, surrounded by towering cliffs and frozen waterfalls. At the end of the run, skiers are towed by horse-drawn sleds back to civilisation, adding a touch of rustic charm to the experience.

If you're seeking a challenge, Cortina offers excellent off-piste opportunities, especially after fresh snowfall. Expert skiers can explore backcountry terrain with a guide or embark on one of the resort’s thrilling ski tours, such as the Super8 Ski Tour, which traverses three Dolomite passes.

Cortina’s dining scene is as stylish as its streets, with restaurants ranging from traditional mountain huts serving hearty Italian fare to Michelin-starred establishments offering gourmet experiences. The car-free main street of Corsa Italia has many options on or nearby, and there are others just a short hop by taxi from the town centre.

For a taste of authentic cuisine on the slopes, dine in the award-winning Rifugio Averau with specialities such as venison, local sausages, homemade ravioli and pappardelle and prosecco cake with amaretto cream; or try Rifugio Scoiattoli, a family-run restaurant situated on the Super8 Ski Tour serving delicious homemade pasta and other local delicacies.

Rifugio Pomedes and Rifugio Capanna Tondi are other popular choices on the mountain.

One of the best restaurants in the area is El Camineto, near the foot of the Duca d’Aosta chairlift on Tofana-Socrepes and popular with non-skiers and skiers alike at lunch and dinner for its unusual specialities such as black cod and pasta, white polenta with scallops and porcini mushrooms and fabulous desserts. The views are delightful too. We also like Baita Piè Tofana, a romantic mountain lodge with an interesting wine list and modern seasonal cuisine.

In the evening, Cortina’s fine dining establishments come into their own. Michelin-starred Ristorante Tivoli and SanBrite are reputed to be the best restaurants in town. Alternatively, try Al Camin, specialising in homemade pasta, meat and game and the most decadent desserts in the Dolomites. This is one of Cortina’s best-kept secrets, just a short drive away at Passo Tre Croci. Just a stone's throw from Corso Italia, Ristorante de Len takes inspiration from the local region with classics given a contemporary twist. For pizza and family-friendly dining, 5 Torri and Il Ponte are great choices.

Après-ski in Cortina is elegant and relaxed, with an emphasis on good wine, conversation, and people-watching. Enoteca Cortina is a popular spot for sipping fine Italian wines, while Il Vizietto di Cortina offers a lively atmosphere with cocktails and late-night dining. For a spot of late-night dancing, head to Janbo.

If skiing isn't your thing, Cortina offers plenty of exciting alternatives. Summer in Cortina d'Ampezzo

Cortina offers a plethora of activities during the summer months such as mountain biking, trekking, trail running, rock climbing, tennis, golf and swimming.

It plays host to one of the largest cycling events in the summer, the Marathon dles Dolomites, which regularly attracts over 9,000 cyclists who traverse the most beautiful Dolomite passes while the roads are closed to traffic.

Golfing is another big draw with several courses nearby. Spend an afternoon on the challenging course at the Cortina Golf Club or visit the nine-hole golf course in Corvara, a little further afield and at 1,700m above sea level, one of the highest golf courses in Europe.

For car lovers visiting Cortina in late July, the Coppa d’Oro delle Dolomiti, a showcase of vintage cars parading through the Dolomite passes, is a real sight to behold.

How to get to Cortina d'Ampezzo

The nearest and most practical airport for travelling to Cortina is Venice Marco Polo airport (150 km) due to its frequent transfer options and journey time of 2 hours. Other convenient airports include Treviso (135 km) and Innsbruck (165 km).

Cortina can also be reached by helicopter transfer thanks to the Heliport at Fiames.

The train line to Cortina was unfortunately disused some years ago (it's now a wonderful biking/hiking path) so the nearest train station is Calalzo di Cadore to the South, around a 45 minute drive from Cortina.
