Courmayeur

A skiing paradise at the foot of the world famous Mont Blanc.

This beautiful village, rich in both tradition and atmosphere, is the perfect snowy escape for any winter enthusiast. Set in the stunning scenery of Northern Italy, Courmayeur is situated on the ‘sunny side’ of Mont Blanc. The legendary off-piste terrain here is matched by the exquisite food and drink, all of which is parcelled up in the quintessential Italian warmth the world has come to so love. The uncrowded slopes are something of a delight but the streets are a hive of activity meaning that this resort provides the perfect combination of relaxation and excitement.

The ski area is split into two linked areas, divided by a rocky ridge. The different sides offer a variety of both beautifully pisted terrain as well as some superb off piste skiing. One of the resort’s most unique qualities is being able to ski an incredible 1,400m of vertical from Cresta Youla all the way down to Dolonne. The Mont Blanc sector, home to a three-staged cable car and the predominant off piste area, is an ideal area for a ski touring, particularly when behind a guide who knows where to find the best snow. For those craving even more adventurous exploits then the outstanding heli skiing is definitely for you, with breathtaking drops and scenery.

A buzzing nightlife and some of the best food in the Alps makes for the ultimate winter escape.

Courmayeur’s main lift service does not stop running until midnight, so visitors can let their hair down and enjoy an incredible après scene both on and off the mountain. Bars and restaurants in this village are an interesting mix of contemporary and traditional in terms of architecture as well as concept. The quaint, cobbled alleyways of the village lead off to chic boutiques along with delicatessen, antique and homeware shops so there is always something to do irrespective of bad weather.

Considered to be the gastronomical star of the Alps, the pride of this resort undoubtedly lies in its food; Michelin-starred chef Heston Blumenthal’s annual appearance as host for the Mountain Gourmet Ski Experience being testament to this. However, do not think that the opportunity for indulgence ends here: Courmayeur’s three outdoor natural thermal pools are the epitome of tranquility and peace, allowing guests to switch off and steam their worries away.
