The Sella Ronda is one of the most famous ski circuits in the world, covering 26 km of epic pistes in the Dolomiti Superski region. Looping around the Sella massif, this one-day circuit includes four passes (Pordoi, Sella, Gardena and Campolongo) and four Ladin valleys (Fassa, Gardena, Badia and Arabba).
The total distance of the loop, including lifts, is about 40 km and its best to leave no later than 10 am. It is also important to have crossed the last pass by 15.30 pm to ensure you don’t miss the last lift. The circuit is suitable for any relatively fit, competent skier and for anyone that appreciates a good view, the Sella Ronda circuit is a must. With astonishing mountain and forest views at every turn, you won’t cover the same route twice as you make your way around the circuit.
The circuit can be done in either direction but the clockwise route (orange signs) tends to be slightly quicker. However, it is also the busiest option. Advanced skiers can take on some extra challenges (perhaps the demanding Porto Vescovo trail from Arabba or the Gran Risa giant slalom piste in La Villa).
With the Dolomites being renowned for its amazing food and wine, you are not short of places to stop along the way. Corvara, in particular, has some fabulous restaurants including Col Alto Refugio serving hearty local cuisine and Piz Boé Alpine Lounge for innovative Tyrolean dishes with a view.
