Luxury Ski Holidays in Les Gets

Situated between Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc, Les Gets is part of the vast Portes du Soleil ski area. Typically Savoyard, Les Gets has succeeded in preserving its authentic character with its traditional stone and timber chalets, friendly locals and relaxed ambiance. You will also find many luxury chalets in Les Gets with a variety of superb facilities including hot tubs, cinema rooms and swimming pools.

With panoramic views of the Mont Blanc massif and an expansive ski area catering for skiers of all ages and abilities, Les Gets truly is a paradise for luxury ski holidays. Easily accessible from the many chalets in Les Gets are two main ski areas on either side of the village: Les Chavannes, linked to the Portes du Soleil slopes, and Mont Chery, offering stunning views of the Mont Blanc range.

Located on the low pass leading to Morzine, Les Gets is an attractive, sunny village with appetising food and wine shops lining the main street. Popular with families, an outdoor ice rink adds to its charm. There are many good restaurants and several apres-ski bars ready to welcome you after a day’s exploring on the mountain.

If your interests lie away from the slopes, then Les Gets will have no difficulties in keeping you entertained. Take time to soak up some mountain culture at the Mechanical Music Museum, set off on a scenic hike, test out ski-joering or give paragliding a go.

Luxury Chalets & Apartments in Les Gets

Conveniently spread along the base of its slopes, Les Gets is a quieter and more attractive luxury ski resort than neighbouring Morzine.

Many catered chalets in Les Gets are located above the village, perfectly positioned for peace and privacy and offering ski-in/ski-out access whilst still remaining close to the centre and its amenities.

To the left of the lifts, the village spreads up the hill to Gibannaz, then to Les Folliets at the foot of the Folliets chair, and further on to Les Chavannes. To the right, development spreads up the hill to Lac des Ecoles and the base of the La Turche drag lift.

Down the hill on the outskirts of the village is the second lift base of Les Perrieres. Shuttle buses link all these areas together as well as many hamlet-suburbs dotted around the hillside so getting to and from your Les Gets chalet rental couldn’t be easier.

Skiing in Les Gets

When renting a chalet in Les Gets you have access to the vast Portes du Soleil ski area. Located between Mont Blanc in southeastern France and Lake Geneva in Switzerland, Portes du Soleil encompasses 12 interlinked ski resorts and is naturally divided into two parts, connected by a short town-train ride at Morzine. The larger area to the east links French Avoriaz and Chatel with Swiss Morgins, Champery and other small villages. To the west is the smaller area of slopes shared by Morzine and Les Gets.

Whilst the Portes du Soleil is a huge area, this shouldn’t put beginner skiers off. Most popular with those learning to ski is the area around the villages of Avoriaz, Morzine and Les Gets with plenty of gentle terrain to master the basics on.

Les Gets has a free ski zone for beginners accessible from the top of the Chavanne chairlift and three green pistes nearby. In the same area, children will delight in the “Le Grand Cry” family snow park which features totem poles, American Indian decorations and a variety of small tunnels and jumps to try.

Competent skiers can explore most of the Portes du Soleil circuit and its offshoots with confidence, whilst expert skiers will find various black runs dotted around the ski area, the most famous of these being the Swiss Wall which is reputed to be one of the hardest mogul runs in Europe.

Eating and Drinking in Les Gets

From mountain-top classics to authentic tapas bars, Les Gets has a number of fantastic restaurants to choose from. On the mountain, La Paika is a favourite. Found on the slopes down to Perrières, this atmospheric farmhouse-style restaurant has a sunny terrace with glorious views and specialises in tasty barbecue fare. At the top of Mont Chéry, La Grande Ourse has impressive views from the terrace and tempting specialities such as slow-cooked home-smoked barbecue ribs and lobster and scallop tartiflette.

If renting a catered chalet in Les Gets, make sure you sample the Savoyard specialities in town on your chef’s night off. La Fruitière des Perrieres is an authentic restaurant attached to the local fromagerie which is famous for its incredible fondues.

Before returning to your ski chalet in Les Gets, finish your day on the slopes at the aptly named L’Aprèski at the foot of the pistes. Part of the Bellevue hotel, you can enjoy live bands, DJs and a variety of delicious snacks. For a slightly more sophisticated drinking experience, the Bacchus by Crychar has an extensive wine list and cosy setting. For late-night dancing, L’Igloo has a resident DJ and stays open well into the early hours.
