Luxury Ski Holidays in Megeve

Conceived in the 1920s by the Rothschilds as a French alternative to St. Moritz, Megeve was a prime destination for the French aristocracy and remains one of the world’s most exclusive ski resorts today.

With an atmosphere of elegance and style that attracts the international jet set, luxury chalets in Megeve are in abundance. Megeve is also an excellent luxury family ski holiday destination as well as a cultural and social centre that retains a delightfully French atmosphere. The charming car-free town centres around a main medieval-style square displaying a diverse range of architecture.

Paradise for window shoppers and those who wish to enjoy a ski resort without taking to the slopes, Megeve is filled with stylish boutiques, fantastic Michelin-star restaurants and sophisticated bars for enjoying a post-ski cocktail or two. Those staying in a catered chalet in Megeve will, however, be well taken care of when it comes to cuisine.

With views of Mont Blanc from many of the runs, Megeve is one of France’s most picturesque places to ski. Divided into three sectors - Rochebrune, Mont d’Arbois and Le Jaillet, there is more than enough skiing to satisfy all ages and abilities during a luxury ski holiday in Megeve.

Luxury Chalets & Apartments in Megeve

Situated at a crossroads between Chamonix, the Mont Blanc region and Val d’Arly, Megeve accommodation is spread throughout different neighbourhoods with a variety of luxury chalet rentals available to rent.

Offering direct access to the slopes via Le Chamois cable car, the centre of Megeve is the most convenient area to stay during your luxury ski holiday. Also close to the centre and mostly within walking distance are the luxury ski chalets and apartments of Rochebrune.

The largest and most popular area for Megeve chalet rentals is Mont d’Arbois. In the heights of Megeve, this charming residential area is home to some of the most luxurious catered ski chalets in the region with incredible entertainment and wellness facilities.

Offering the best views of Mont Blanc, the Jaillet area is a peaceful spot with connections to the hamlets of La Giettaz and Combloux. Megeve also has many ski-in/ski-out chalets dotted around the mountain, making it a popular resort for keen skiers eager to be first out on the slopes each morning.

Skiing in Megeve

Megeve’s impressive ski area falls into three main sectors, two of which are linked by cable car. If you are renting a catered chalet in Megeve, then it is likely that a driving service is included, making access to the slopes simple. The most accessible (and attractive) area, Rochebrune, can be reached directly from the centre of town via the Chamois gondola.

A cross-valley cable car links to the second sector, Mont d’Arbois which peaks at Mont Joly (2353m). Also accessed from La Princesse, St Gervais and St Nicolas, as well as by a free bus from town, this is by far the largest sector with lifts and runs in several directions. Across the valley is the third sector, Le Jaillet. Separate from the other two sectors, Le Jaillet is linked to the slopes of La Giettaz and Combloux and provides some of the best off-piste skiing in the resort.

With little skiing above 2,000m, Megeve is considered a ‘low’ resort. However, the slopes are pasture land and don’t require as much snow coverage compared to the rockier slopes of higher resorts. There are also extensive snow making facilities should the big dumps not arrive.

With a huge choice of ski schools and excellent beginner slopes above the village, Megeve is a fantastic resort for learning to ski. With an extensive network of friendly slopes, Megeve is a great resort for building confidence yet there is plenty of red (and easy black) skiing too. Chamois on the Mont Joly and the women’s downhill course at Cote 2000 provide the most challenging skiing and there is plenty of off-piste terrain to explore. Freestyle skiers can practise their tricks in several terrain parks including on Mont Joux, Rochebrune and at the top of the Jaillet gondola.

Eating & Drinking in Megeve

Whether you are staying in a catered chalet in Megeve or prefer self-catered accommodation, it is still worth exploring the resort's extensive collection of bars and restaurants. For a fine dining experience, Emmanuel Renaut’s Flocons de Sel is a three Michelin-star restaurant with sweeping views of the Alps from its secluded location. Plants take pride of place at La Table de l’Alpaga which also holds two Michelin stars.

If you’re looking for traditional Alpine charm, look no further than L’Alpage. This mountain restaurant serves typical Savoie favourites such as fondue, raclette and tartiflette. For the sweet-toothed of the group, Le Prieure is well known for its artisan teas and desserts which include lemon meringue pie and cheesecake. Finally, La Ferme de Mon Pére focuses on local French products to produce exquisite dishes such as black truffle risotto and liquorice-flavoured frog legs.

Part of the famous chain, La Folie Douce in Megève is located at the top of the Mont Joux lift and is the place for mountain top music and dancing. After dining in your Megeve chalet, head out to the Cocoon club which has a DJ and live bands playing regularly.
