Back in the car and from here it is a steady climb, past the retreating Stein Glacier to the beginning of the Susten Pass. Down at Wassen (916m) make sure you take the old road south, not the motorway, for a more scenic route.
Susten Pass - described by some as a prince among mountain passes, Susten is part of what is collectively referred to as the “Big 3” passes. Completed in 1945, this was the first road to be built specifically for cars. When Porsche launched a special limited edition of their evergreen 911 sports car in 2016, they used the Susten pass for the promotional video.
