Best Ski Resorts for Families
With February Half-Term soon upon us, we have put together a list of some of our favourite ski resorts for families.
One of the most popular ski resorts in the world, it should come as no surprise that Meribel is a beautiful location to experience an unforgettable family ski holiday. With top ski schools and dedicated snow play areas for children to enjoy, Meribel is a great resort for children’s first experience in the mountains. Children under five can also ski in Meribel for free although a valid ski pass with identification is still required.
Found in the middle of the Three Valleys ski area, this luxury ski resort is also perfect for groups of skiers of varying abilities thanks to its links to Courchevel and Val Thorens. With several satellite villages, luxury ski chalets can be found all across the resort; some of our favourite family-friendly chalets include La Ferme de Mon Grand-Père and Chalet Valentine.
Full of character and charm, Les Gets is part of the Portes du Soleil ski area which makes it perfect for families looking to ski long distances, with over 650 km of pistes to discover. The majority of the slopes also run side by side so skiers of varying abilities can enjoy the runs best suited to them before meeting at the bottom by the lifts. February Half Term is a great time for families to ski in Les Gets with a children’s ski and activity area, as well as a host of ski schools and many activities to explore off the slopes too.
A beautifully renovated alpine farmhouse Ferme de la Corderie creates the perfect base for families of keen skiers being just a few minutes from the main ski lifts of Les Gets. Ideal for large groups, Chalet Le Clos Saint-Jean also has plenty to keep the family entertained.
With a huge variety of activities, the picturesque village of Val Thorens has a welcoming atmosphere with a selection of luxury ski chalets suitable for the whole family. With the title of ‘Europe's highest ski resort’, Val Thorens is a snow sure location for a luxury ski holiday at half term or at Easter when the days are longer and the temperatures start to increase. From tobogganing to snow mountain biking or trampolining at the Fun Park, there is plenty to keep the family entertained off the slopes too.
Complete with a games room and home cinema, Chalet La Datcha, which can be found just 10 metres from the slopes, has outstanding entertainment for the whole family to enjoy.
The ‘Pearl of the Alps’, Saas Fee’s high-altitude also makes for snow-sure skiing for most of the season. With 100 km of perfectly groomed pistes on offer, the skiing in Saas Fee caters for skiers of all abilities with the ‘Adrenaline Cup’ enabling friends and family to go head to head across 10 challenges throughout the resort. For the non-skiers in the family, Saas Fee offers plenty of off-slope activities including the famous ice pavilion.
A private family-friendly retreat, Capra Chalet can be found right next to the slopes, whilst Chalet Annapurna has a fantastic outdoor area overlooking the surrounding peaks.
One of Italy’s most famous resorts, Madonna di Campiglio has become increasingly popular with families looking to escape to the Alps for a luxury ski holiday. Mainly built in a traditional alpine style, this resort is full of charm. With varied slopes for all abilities, Madonna di Campiglio is a snowy paradise and has an abundance of activities for the whole family to experience including dog sledding, ice climbing and paragliding.
A rustic retreat with enchanting views of the Dolomites, Chalet Fogajard is the perfect base to come together as a family and enjoy everything this wonderful ski resort has to offer.
